KINGSTON, Jamaican, Tuesday May 31, 2016 – A policeman who has been in custody since earlier this month in connection with the murder of a policewoman must either be charged or be released by Friday, a court has ordered.
Senior Judge Judith Pusey handed down the ruling in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court today.
The cop and a civilian had been taken into custody following the April 28 shooting of 54-year-old Corporal Judith Williams.
The policewoman, who was attached to the office of the Commissioner of Police, was attacked around 6:30 a.m. by two gunmen. They shot her multiple times before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
Over the weekend, Police Commissioner Dr. Carl Williams said charges would be laid in the matter this week.
After the shooting, he said lawmen would stop at nothing to ensure Williams’ killers are brought to justice.
