Cricket – Aussies Sweep Series

Hardbeatnews, NEW YORK, N.Y., Tues. Nov. 29, 2005: With seven wickets in hand and 182 runs on the board, the Mighty Aussies registered a win in the third and final test against the West Indies in Adelaide earlier today.

The win means the Aussies also won the series, 3-0, a whitewash, despite excellent performances by both Windies’ Brian Lara and Dwayne Bravo.

Opener Matthew Hayden led his side to victory with a knock of 87 not-out after the Windies second innings collapse for 204 all-out left the Aussies chasing a mere 182 runs for victory.

He was backed up by Mike Hussey, who ended on 30 not out and Brad Hodge on 23, to give the Australian side another win just after lunch today. Australia began the final day on 76-2, chasing 182 for victory in the third Test at the Adelaide Oval. Hayden was named Man of the Series while Lara was named Man-of-the-Match.

They have now only lost only four of 54 home Tests since 1997.

Corey Collymore bagged two wickets for the Windies while Fidel Edwards took one in a match that was marked by the record-breaking performance of Lara who swept into the history books with his knock of 226 that helped him reach 1,175 runs to surpass Allan Border as the top test soccer of all times. –
