PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti, December 29, 2006 – Supporters loyal to ousted former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide took to the streets of Port-Au-Prince yesterday to demand the return of the former priest who now lives exiled in South Africa.
Haiti media reports say about 1,000 people carrying pictures of the former president, marched through the streets in protest of protest of UN peacekeepers and demanding the return of Aristide.
However, there were no reports of violence as protestors later gathered at a church where Aristide preached.
The former Haitian leader has been largely silent since talking to returning to Haiti prior to the May inauguration of his protégé, Rene Preval, as the newly elected leader of Haiti. (Hardbeatnews.com)
