HAVANA, Cuba, Friday February 24, 2012 – Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez is expected to travel to Cuba this afternoon to undergo surgery early next week.

According to reports it is expected that president will undergo surgery either Monday or Tuesday in the same area where he had a carcinogenic tumor removed in June.

Chavez said that he will start preparations for the surgery this weekend, and would likely be in Cuba for a couple of days.

However, the president gave the assurance that during his absence he will remain in constant contact with his Cabinet, noting that he was travelling with a commando group made up by his closet team of collaborators, including Minister of Presidency, Erika Farias.
