HAVANA, Cuba, Wednesday April 25, 2012 – Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez, is expected to return home tomorrow after undergoing medical treatment in Cuba.
According to reports the 57-year-old President made contact with Venezuela by telephone via the VTV state television channel, and gave the assurance that he will be returning to Caracas this week.
Mr. Chavez went to Cuba to receive radiotherapy treatment following a third surgery to remove the reproduction of a malignant tumor.
Meanwhile, reports back home indicate that the Venezuelan President has already garnered more than 50 per cent of votes ahead of the October 7 general elections.
According to the study, Monitor Country-election in April 2012, 53 per cent of the electorate indicated they would vote for Mr. Chavez if elections were called, despite false rumors about his health.
That gives him a 19-point lead ahead of Opposition candidate, Henrique Capriles, who captured 34 per cent of the votes.
The survey showed that the electorate believed Mr. Chavez was more concerned with the poor in society, and retained the support of most young people.
