FORT-DE-FRANCE, Martinique, Tuesday February 2, 2016 – Residents of Martinique, St. Lucia and Dominica reported feeling the shaking from a pre-dawn earthquake today.
The 4.9 magnitude tremor occurred around 3:18 a.m., according to the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre, 80 km northeast of Fort-de-France, Martinique; 109 km east southeast of Roseau, Dominica; and 120 km northeast of Castries, St. Lucia.
The early morning quake struck at a depth of 18 km.
Some residents reported that the tremor was strong, and even shook objects in their homes.
The latest tremor came two days after a 4.8 magnitude earthquake rattled Guadeloupe and some neighbouring islands.
There were no reports of damage or injuries in either seismic event.
