Firebomb attack in Kingston

KINGSTON, Jamaica, July 30, 2007 – Jamaica police in Kingston Central are on alert after gunmen threw Molotov cocktail bombs at three houses early yesterday.

The bombs caused an immediate fire but residents were able to put out the blaze at South Side in Central Kingston. The bomb attack came after gunmen also opened fire at around 2 a.m. yesterday.

One man was shot in the incident but remains hospitalized. Residents speculate it is a gang feud. The bombing comes ahead of the election which continues to be marred by incidents of violence.

Meanwhile, PM Portia Simpson Miller yesterday warned nationals to be wary of election promises by the opposition Jamaica Labor Party. Both the PNP and the JLP continue active campaigning nationwide ahead of the August 27th election. (
