Sugar Museum on the cards for Guyana

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Wednesday April 25, 2012 – Efforts are underway to recapture and preserve the Guyana sugar industry.

Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy said his ministry would be collaborating with other agencies to establish a Sugar Museum.

Reports carried in other sections of the Press quote Ramsammy as saying the history of the sugar industry runs through the veins of all Guyanese, and was always one of the pillars in the country’s development.

He also disclosed that the Ministry of Agriculture will also be seeking out expertise from the Ministry of Culture and the Guyana Sugar Corporation to establish the museum which will serve as a constant reminder of the contribution of sugar to the country’s development.
