Multi-million dollar fraud uncovered at Guyana hospital

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Thursday October 31, 2013, CMC – As a probe continues into the disappearance of funds from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), the Director of Financial Services and an accounts clerk have been sent on leave.

“This decision took immediate effect so that the probe into the disappearance of funds from the Institution could be continued,” the hospital said in a statement.

On October 1, news emerged that the police and Auditor General’s Office were investigating an alleged multi-million dollar fraud at an institution.

Monies missing included partial payments for certain tests done at private hospitals to which the cash should have been remitted.

The decision to send the duo on leave was made at a meeting of the hospital’s board on October 24. Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
