Haitians Held in Barbados Recaptured After Brief Escape

Frandy Calixte and Daniel Mauvais escaped custody after being denied entry to Barbados.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Monday November 5, 2018 –
Two Haitians who escaped after being denied entry to Barbados are back in custody, but mystery surrounds how they got away in the first place and about their recapture.

It was only over the weekend that lawmen confirmed the escape of Frandy Calixte, 23, and Daniel Mauvais, 50, last Friday. They had arrived on a Copa Airlines flight shortly before 6 p.m. that day, and after being refused entry along with 11 other Haitians, were kept in custody at an undisclosed location to await their flight out of the island.

However, when a security check was made around 1:50 a.m. on Saturday, Calixte and Mauvais were discovered missing.

No details about where they were being kept, the circumstances surrounding their escape, or exactly when and where they were eventually found have been provided. Police only stated yesterday that they were back in custody.
