J$2m reward to capture cop killers

KINGSTON, Jamaica, November 30, 2007 – A 48-year-old top cop in Jamaica has become the country’s latest murder victim, taking the homicide toll so far this year to 1,400 or a 15% jump from last year.

Police say Assistant Commissioner of Police Gilbert Kameka was shot and killed by gunmen early yesterday morning in a house in Irish Town, St Andrew.

Kameka’s murder came as Constable Valentino Chambers was also found shot to death in his car yesterday morning on Slipe Pen Road.

A J$2 million reward is being offered to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the murderers of Kameka and Chambers. National Security Minister, Derrick Smith urged citizens to continue to have faith in the abilities of the members of the security forces to maintain order.

Meanwhile, RJR News reports indicate that a whopping 151 people were killed across Jamaica for the month of November, including five members of the police force. (Hardbeatnews.com)
