KINGSTON, Jamaica, Monday March 9, 2015, CMC – The police have charged the uncle of the three siblings who were killed in a fire that destroyed their home in the Corporate Area on Friday.

Phillip McLeod, 53, who was charged on Saturday with three counts of murder and arson is scheduled to appear in court next week.

According to fire officials, shortly after 1am (local time) on Friday, fire destroyed the house located in the Corporate Area community of Hopeful Village, in what is believed to be a case of arson. Abigal Reid, 9, and her brothers Lenardo Morris, 15 and Bebita Harris, 18, were home alone when the incident occurred.

Residents say they were alerted by screams for help but they and fire officials were prevented from entering the building due to the intensity of the blaze.

Fire personnel say although they arrived within minutes of receiving a call about the fire, they could do little to save the siblings.
