KINGSTON, Jamaica, Wednesday July 10, 2013 – Jamaica has been placed under a storm watch as a weakening Tropical Storm Chantal moves quickly westward and could pass close to the island’s eastern coastline on Wednesday.
The center of the storm was located at 470 kilometers east-southeast of Morant Point, Jamaica and disaster officials said that by placing the island under a storm watch, the island could be affected withina 36 hour period.
Chantal is moving towards the west near 29 mile per hour and this general motion with a decrease in forward speed is expected through Wednesday night. On this forecast track, the centre would pass close to northeastern Jamaica on its way to central Cuba on Thursday.
Disaster officials said Jamaica could begin feeling effects of Tropical Storm Chantal by Wednesday night as the system passes in the vicinity of the island either as a tropical wave or tropical cyclone. (CMC) Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
