Lawyer and wife killed in Belize

BELMOPAN, Belize, Monday October 18, 2010 – Police in Belize are investigating the stabbing deaths of a prominent lawyer and his wife over the weekend.

The deaths of Richard and Maria Stuart have not only shocked the country but left four children without parents.

The two were apparently stabbed to death as they were about to enter their home in Belize City just minutes before midnight on Saturday.

According to police, the lifeless bodies of the 43-year-old attorney and his wife were found, lying face up in a pool of blood, on the second floor of the three-storey building where they lived.

The murders of the lawyer, who was a former magistrate and politician, and his wife bring to 105 the number of homicides recorded in Belize so far this year.
