LIAT flight attendant Deann Pat Portia Plummer paid up the money to avoid spending more time in prison.

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Tuesday June 21, 2016 – The LIAT flight attendant who came into Barbados with 11 pounds of cocaine in her handbag managed to pay the full BDS$52,000 (US$26,000) in fines imposed on her when she appeared in court yesterday and pleaded guilty to drug charges.

Deann Pat Portia Plummer, a St. Lucian national, was fined BDS$25,000 (US$12,500) forthwith on each charge of possession and importation of cocaine.

In addition to paying those amounts, she forked over a BDS$2,000 (US$1,000) fine for possession of cannabis.

Those drugs – 1.3 grammes – were found by police when they searched Plummer’s apartment in Barbados, following her arrest at the Grantley Adams International Airport on April 26.

The 33-year-old was also convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the charge of having cocaine with intent to supply; and reprimanded on the cocaine trafficking charge.

When she first appeared in court, she had pleaded not guilty and had been remanded to prison. The payment of the fines ensured she did not have an extended stay in jail.
