LONDON, England, Tuesday May 17, 2016 – A 40-year-old man accused of killing Barbadian-born male nurse Patrick Clarke at a mental hospital was remanded to prison yesterday but is due to have a bail hearing tomorrow.

Jimmy Jedson, 40, allegedly attacked Clarke at Southleigh Community Hospital, in South Croydon last Thursday, stabbing him multiple times. An autopsy showed that a stab wound to the chest was the cause of death.

The 68-year-old Clarke, a member of the Barbados Overseas Nurses Association in the United Kingdom, died on the scene.

Jedson, who is reported to be a patient of the private mental health facility, was arrested and taken for treatment for a hand injury, before being taken into custody.

Few details about the circumstances surrounding the murder have been made public.

A spokesperson for the hospital which provides treatment and rehabilitation for adults with long-term mental health problems, said Clarke had “lost his life following an incident in the hospital”.

The hospital said the Barbadian was “a valued and respected member of staff who will be deeply missed”.
