LONDON, England, Wednesday July 1, 2015 – Two prominent American preachers claim that September 28, the date of the last of four “blood moons” over the past 18 months, will herald the second coming of Christ.
But in the meantime, John Hagee and Mark Blitz say, the world as we know it will be destroyed by major earthquakes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and the possibility of a third world war.
The predictions echo other doomsday prophesies that have predicted apocalyptic scenarios such as asteroid impact and tsunamis towards the end of September.
The two American evangelists, who have written books about their predictions, claim that Armageddon will occur at the conclusion of the ongoing “tetrad” of blood moons in September. The tetrad began on April 15 last year, followed by another red-coloured lunar eclipse on October 8 last year, and a third on April 4 this year.
The rare alignment of blood moons has only happened a handful of times in the last 2,000 years, and the pastors claim they have historically coincided with globally significant events.
Hagee, founder and senior pastor of a “megachurch” boasting more than 20,000 followers in San Antonio, Texas, unveiled his revelations in his book “Four Blood Moons,” a New York Times bestseller that has been made into a documentary-style movie.
“The heavens are God’s billboard. He’s been sending signals to Earth, and we haven’t been picking them up,” he maintains.
“Two blood moons, in 2014 and 2015, point to dramatic events in the Middle East and, as a result, changes in the whole world.”
The Texas pastor said that while Americans watched the most recent blood moon in April, the Ukrainian government launched its first offensive to re-take territory occupied by Russian-backed separatists.
He noted that the Ukraine crisis has since escalated and it is feared if the US gives Ukraine military aid, it could trigger a third world war.
“According to the Biblical prophecy, world history is about to change dramatically,” he added. “To get four blood moons you need something absolutely extraordinary in astrological terms.
“Every time this has happened in the last 500 years, it has coincided with tragedy for the Jewish people followed by triumph. And once again, for Israel, the timing of this tetrad is remarkable.
“The really significant fact is that between these four blood moons there will be a total solar eclipse.
“Jesus himself, in the Book of Luke, states there ‘will be signs in the sun, moon and stars’ and to ‘lift up your heads for redemption draws nigh.’
“It just says ‘when you see these signs’ … and four blood moons is a very significant one … ‘the end of this age is coming.’”
Meanwhile, Blitz, of El Shaddai Ministries in Washington and author of “Blood Moons: Decoding the Imminent Heavenly Signs,” has found that blood moon tetrads coincided with significant historical events for Israel and Jewish people.
These include the formation of the Jewish state in 1948, the Six-Day War for Jerusalem, and the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492.
The latest tetrad of blood moons has also coincided with Biblical feasts, with Passover beginning on April 3, a day before the last blood moon, and September 28 marking the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles.
“When I noticed the years these phenomena occurred, my mind began reeling. The last two times there were four blood moons in a row, they happened, first, right after Israel became a nation in 1948, and then again when Israel retook Jerusalem in 1967.”
Blitz says he is now monitoring the frequency of earthquakes and the number has more than doubled over the last 10 years.
“It was prophesied that there would be earthquakes at increased levels before the return of the Messiah and they were to be likened to birth pangs,” he indicated.
“With the increase in activity and the increase in magnitude I definitely see it as being but another sign along with the signs in the heavens that we are at the door.”
But not everyone is impressed.
Recently, another doomsday prophesy, warning that an asteroid would devastate Earth between September 22 and 28, was promptly shot down by NASA.
Hagee and Blitz have also been accused of spreading false predictions to boost the sales of their books.
“You’ll never go broke predicting the apocalypse,” commented Professor Gary Shogren, a former pastor who studied the New Testament at Aberdeen University in Scotland.
And Britain’s Daily Express reports that Chris White, a YouTube video maker, claims to have exposed just how “out of time” past blood moon events actually were with the events they supposedly coincided with.
White said of the 1492/1493 tetrad: “The Spanish Inquisition started in 1478 and ended 350 years later.”
“They have tried to give it credibility by saying it coincided with the ohambra decree being issued on March 31 1492, when they expelled the Jews, but the first eclipse did not occur until over a year later and the last eclipse was two years later. Unless saying over a year out is God’s prediction way, then this is not a match,” he added.
He said the next eclipse was actually in 1949/50, and the closest eclipse to any significant event in the creation of Israel was 10 months after the Six-Day War ended.
White also noted that there were two tetrads not close to any significant event that the pastors had “conveniently” left out.
