ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, Thursday April 23, 2015, CMC – It was not just Grenada’s hosting of only their second Test that excited local fans on Tuesday.
Rather, it was the brilliant voice of 20-year-old local girl Sabrina Francis which took centre stage at the start of the opening day at the Grenada National Stadium.
Following the National Anthem, the estimated more than 5 000 spectators remained on their feet as Francis rendered a local favourite tune “This Is Home”, which she also composed.
“It was the biggest stage I’ve ever performed on…the first time I’ve performed on such an international stage,” said Francis, who was accompanied by Swiss pianist Dieter Burkhalter.
“It was a truly wonderful experience for me. As a little girl from the ‘country’ in Grenada to perform at an international cricket match is like a dream.”
A global audience of over 50 million tuned in to the performance just after the toss.
People on the island of Grenada can see and hear Francis again when she performs with her band FLOM – For The Love of Music – at the floating concert in St George’s on Tuesday night.
