CARICOM air transport spokesperson never told of REDjet
KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, Wednesday April 4, 2012 – St. Vincent Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has made it clear that he will not be sympathetic to the plight of Barbados-based air carrier REDjet.
His reason, according to reports, is because he was never informed of the airline’s entry into the market, not even in his capacity as CARICOM air transport spokesperson.
Dr. Gonsalves is quoted as saying that the owners of REDjet did not come to see him or tell him what they were doing, so he took that to mean they did not want him involved in their business.
The airline suspended flights to its nine destinations on February 13, and has since had its air operators’ licence suspended by Barbados and Trinidad.
However, over the weekend, a senior government minister in Barbados has indicated that government would see out ways to have the low-cost carrier back in the skies again.
