PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Wednesday March 18, 2015, CMC – A member of the board of directors of the Chaguaramas Development Authority (CDA), Jaishima Leladharsingh, has been fired after he posted racist statements on the social network, Facebook.

Planning and Development Minister Dr Bhoe Tewarie said he had interviewed Leladharsingh before asking him for his resignation.

“He apologised profusely. He said what he did, he did in a moment of rage. And that he was very sorry. My own feeling was that there was no malevolence involved,” Tewarie said.

“On the basis of verifying that they were posted…even though it was a long time ago and not associated with the CDA, I felt that it was not appropriate for someone to continue as a board member of the CDA having uttered those statements publicly,” Tewarie added.

Leladharsingh, who is also a senior United National Congress (UNC) activist on April 12, 2014 referred to Anthony S Mcleod as a “stinking nigger” on Facebook.
