PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Tuesday April 30, 2013 – Trinidad and Tobago soca star Machel Montano’s business manager, Anthony “Chinese Laundry” Chow Lin On, was shot multiple times by unknown assailants near his home in Goodwood Park on Thursday night.
The businessman was rushed to West Shore Medical Private Hospital by a motorist and was said to be in stable condition at the weekend.
According to a Guardian Media report, Chow Lin On was driving his black BMW along the Western Main Road in Glencoe when he stopped to turn right into Goodwood Park.
At around 9:20 pm, while the businessman was waiting to turn, a vehicle heading east slowed down near his car. Residents reportedly heard several loud explosions before the vehicle sped off.
Chow Lin On was shot twice in the right arm and once in his side. His chin was also grazed by another bullet, according to police. The injuries have been deemed non-life threatening.
The businessman’s vehicle was subsequently towed to the Four Roads Police Station where a team of officers continues the probe.
Investigators were unable to interview Chow Lin On at the hospital after the incident, as such meetings are not allowed at the private institution, police said. They are expected to interview the businessman after he is discharged.
Chow Lin On is the managing director of the T&T Radio Network (TTRN), the parent company of radio stations 96.1 We FM, STAR 94.7 and 107.7 Music for Life.
In 2010, Chow Lin On was involved in a shooting with bandits in front of his Tragarete Road, Port-of-Spain, business, but investigators believe the two incidents were unrelated.
Reacting to the incident, Liz Montano, mother of the 2013 International Groovy Soca Monarch, told Guardian Media: “I felt very nervous when I heard the news because he is very close to our family and is a very good person. I know how it feels when something bad like this happens to a good person. I know he is a very spiritual man, coming from a very spiritual family, so our prayers are with him.” Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
