Trinidad and Tobago PM likely to be discharged today

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Friday September 30, 2011 – Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is likely to be discharged from the St. Clair Medical Centre today, after being hospitalized on Wednesday when she complained of feeling unwell.

Health Minister Dr. Fuad Khan said her doctors are still concerned about swelling of her feet.

“Her physicians further advise that the decision to extend her stay was only out of an abundance of caution following a mild allergic reaction to the dye administered during an evaluation,” the minister explained.

He said the Prime Minister’s doctor indicated that all the “investigative assessments are normal or close to normal for a woman her age”.

Persad-Bissessar, 60, has reportedly been undergoing a “comprehensive medical, which necessitated her stay at the medical facility,” Dr Khan said.

“During this period the Honourable Prime Minister has maintained the performance of her duties whilst being continuously updated by her Cabinet colleagues. The Prime Minister has received several Ministers and held discussions on Government business.” Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
