Trinidad cops accused of rape and buggery out on bail

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Tuesday April 30, 2013 – Two police officers accused of the abduction, rape and buggery of a woman were released on TT$250,000 (one TT dollar = US$0.16 cents) bail each when they appeared in a Central Trinidad Court on Friday.

Police constables Steven Worrell, 35, and Marvin Mitchell, 32, were alleged to have committed the crimes on March 30 in Central Trinidad.

They are also accused of misbehaviour in public office, after allegedly demanding TT$1, 000 to forego a criminal charge against the woman’s boyfriend.

They are also charged with receiving TT$940 from the unidentified man to forego the charge.

The charges against the officers were laid indictably and the officers were not called upon to enter a plea.

The case has been adjourned to May 23. (CMC) Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360. (View sample)
