Trinidad government minister hospitalised after "mild stroke"

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Friday September 27, 2013, CMC – Gender, Youth and Child Development Minister, Clifton De Coteau, is undergoing medical tests after being hospitalised earlier this week, Housing Minister Dr. Roodal Moonilal has confirmed.

He said his Cabinet colleague had been taken to the private Surgimed Medical centre in San Fernando, south of here, on Wednesday and that “they are doing some tests on him and he is there resting at the moment.

“I spoke to him yesterday and he was in good spirits and energised. We wish him all the best. He is an integral part of our team and we wish him a speedy recovery. All his parliamentary and cabinet colleagues are with him side by side, and we intend later in the evening to visit him,’ Moonilal told the Trinidad Express newspaper on Friday.

The paper, quoting a source close to the minister said that he suffered a “mild stroke on Wednesday night”. 

De Coteau was appointed to the Ministry earlier this month in the third Cabinet re-shuffle of the coalition People’s Partnership government of Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar since coming to office in May 2010. Click here to receive free news bulletins via email from Caribbean360.
