First Citizens Bank appoints new Barbados CEO

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Tuesday October 1, 2013 – Glyne Harrison, who has served in the position of Acting CEO of First Citizens Bank (Barbados) Ltd. since the Bank began operating in Barbados nearly one year ago, has officially been appointed to the position of CEO of the Bank’s operations.  First Citizens Bank began operating in Barbados on September 17, 2012 when the First Citizens Group purchased Butterfield Bank’s local operations.

Mr. Harrison has over 25 years of experience in the banking industry, and has held leadership positions in the areas of retail banking, corporate performance management, strategic leadership and customer relations. Prior to assuming the post of Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Harrison was a Senior Manager of Butterfield Bank where he was a member of the Executive Management Committee with direct responsibilities for the Retail Banking and Banking Operations divisions. He holds directorships on several boards both within and outside of the banking industry, including directorships on the boards of the Barbados Automated Clearings House Incorporated (BACHI) and the Caribbean Integrated Financial Services Incorporated (CarIFS).

Commenting on his recent appointment, Mr. Harrison said that he is pleased to be a part of the First Citizens family and that he looks forward to helping make the Bank’s operations more competitive by helping individuals, families and businesses in Barbados achieve their personal and professional dreams.  He also noted that the First Citizens philosophy of ‘We put you first’ has provided a strong anchor for the Bank’s first year of operations, and will continue to be a compass for developing relationships with customers, staff, suppliers and other stakeholders. 

Mr. Harrison is a Certified Management Accountant, as well as the holder of an honours undergraduate degree in Economics and Management from the University of the West Indies, a post graduate diploma in Management Studies from the Herriott-Walt University and a Masters Degree in Financial Services Management from the University of Surrey. Mr. Harrison’s banking credentials, along with his familiarity with the industry in Barbados, and with the Bank’s current operations are expected to provide strong levels of leadership and continuity, as the Bank continues to integrate itself into the banking industry in Barbados.
