Journal launched to assist cancer survivors

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Thursday October 28, 2010 – Cancer Survivors can now rest assured that their treatment regime will all be located in one place. This courtesy the Treatment Companion©, a journal geared specifically towards assisting women during their recovery process. The book, written by Nicole Joseph Chin, was launched on Wednesday 20th October at the Atrium; Guardian Life Head Office in the presence of Former First Lady Zalayar Hassanali and other distinguished guests.

Chin: a US/UK certified mastectomy and bra fitter for over seven years and CEO of Ms Brafit Limited an Intimate Apparel and Lifestyle company, felt the need to create a book that would help make the transition of cancer patients effortless. The Treatment Companion© allows women to accurately and coherently create and maintain records of their treatment. This journal contains several easy to use fact sheets and tables where users can record their doctor visits and surgical follow ups and other important information.  Users will also be able to record their pain levels as well as maintain their own surgery logs.

While the book is designed for the patient, it can also be very useful to their families and the medical professionals with whom they interact and subsequently make up the core of their support system.

The Treatment Companion© is the first concise publication of its kind in the Caribbean and South America.  As such in the near future the journal will be translated into both French and Spanish.  It has several revised features that allow for easy navigation for all users.

Additionally Chin feels strongly about connecting with and empowering women of all walks of life. In this regard, inspirational quotes by prominent women in Trinidad and Tobago and America, hailing from the Fashion Industry to National Leadership and Corporate heads were also added on each tab in the book. These additions will provide a repository of tools and resources to ensure that every user has a comfortable transition to recovery.
