NASSAU, Bahamas, March 31, 2008 – The Bahamas yesterday held on for a draw in their World Cup qualifying soccer match-up against the British Virgin Islands.
Michael Bethel and Demont Mitchell gave Bahamas the two-goals needed for the 2-2 draw. The results mean that the Bahamas advances to the next round of World Cup qualifying round ahead of the 2010 World Cup on a technicality. Bahamas advanced 2-1 on away goals and will play Jamaica in June.
The BVI scored in the 78th and 90th minutes, but failed to get a final goal.
Bermuda won 3-1 at Cayman Islands and advanced on 4-2 aggregate. It will face Trinidad and Tobago in the second round, with the winner joining a semifinal group expected to include the United States, Guatemala and Cuba. (CaribWorldNews)
