Jamaica’s top sports honors go to sprinters

KINGSTON, Jamaica, January 31, 2008 – World’s fastest man, Asafa Powell, and Olympic sprinter, Veronica Campbell, have been named Jamaica’s sportsman and sportswoman of 2007.


The two top athletes were selected by a 10-member panel of former athletes and sports reporters. They were presented the awards Tuesday evening.


Powell holds the world record of 9.74 seconds in a 100-m sprint while Campbell had a strong 2007 season, winning the 100 meters at the World Championships and also taking silver medals in the 200 and 400-meter relay. (CaribWorldNews.com)
