Million $ jackpot shared by Jamaican-born American runner

BERLIN, Germany, September 17, 2007 – Jamaican-born, U.S. runner, Sanya Richards, walked off with a half a million dollars on Sunday after winning her event in the final Golden League meet of the season.

Richards took the win in the sixth race of the IAAF Golden League 2007 series, the DKB-ISTAF in Berlin, Germany. Before a capacity crowd of 70,000., she clocked 49.27 and the gold in the 400-m.

“I am so proud of myself. I am so excited that I could win the Jackpot for the second time! This time I will invest the money and won’t spend everything,” an excited Richards commented. The top athlete had a share of the jackpot last year, when she took home US$250,000.

She shared the jackpot with Yelena Isinbayeva, who completed a 4.82m vault. a 49.27 world leading run in the 400m for the American.

Richards born in 1985 in Kingston, Jamaica, competes for the U.S. where she has lived since age 12. She became a naturalized citizen in 2002. Richards graduated from the University of Texas in 2006 with a degree in management information systems. –
