PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Thursday November 6, 2014, CMC – President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), Azim Bassarath, has denied reports that Denesh Ramdin has been removed as captain for this year’s first class season.

Ramdin said he was fired as captain of T and T and accused TTCB of victimizing him as test captain of the West Indies team which abandoned their tour of India last month.

However, Bassarath says the TTCB executive had not yet taken any decision on Ramdin, who continued to remain captain.

“We have not appointed any new captain. There is a recommendation from the selectors that we appoint Rayad Emrit as captain of the team from next week,” Bassarath told ESPNcricinfo.

“The executive of the board has yet to sit and decide whether we accept or reject the recommendation. Ramdin is still the captain of Trinidad & Tobago cricket team.”

Allrounder Rayad Emrit has been appointed captain of the T&T side now wrapping up preparations ahead of their opening clash with Barbados.

Emrit has been credited for leading T and T with distinction last season after they lost the regional four day tournament by a point.

The TTCB executive board is scheduled to meet this weekend to take a final decision, Bassarath said.

“When the selectors met to pick the team they realised the Denesh would have been in India playing a complete tour. Immediately after that he would go to the South Africa tour. And after that he would go directly to the World Cup,” Bassarath explained.

“So Denesh was not going to be available to play for T&T for the 2014-15 season. Hence the selectors made a recommendation [to think about appointing another captain].”
