Hardbeatnews, KANDY, Sri Lanka, Tues. July 26, 2005: Sri Lanka whipped the West Indies cricket squad by a whopping 240 runs yesterday to take the win in the second test match here in Kandy.
The weak West Indies side, led by Guyanese Shivnarine Chanderpaul, were defeated by six-wickets at Colombo’s Singhalese Sports Club as the Sri Lankans won the series 2-0.
The Windies was dismissed in 179 minutes as spinner Muttiah Muralitharan bagged a whopping 8 for 46. The top scorer for the Windies was Narsingh Deonarine who managed a meager 29. Skipper Chanderpaul reached only 24 before he fell to the bowling of Herath.
Earlier in the day, the hosts declared at 375 with three wickets intact and sent the visitors in to chase 378 runs. They faltered miserably, reaching only 137 all-out.
The Windies are now looking to redeem themselves in the one-dayers, which open on Sunday, July 31 against India at the International Stadium in Dambulla. – Hardbeatnews.com
