Cruz Bay, St. John in US Virgin Islands

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Wednesday June 28, 2017 – US News & World Report has released its annual rankings of the Best Vacation Destinations, and the British Virgin Islands (BVI) came out on top in the Caribbean.

The World’s Best Places to Visit highlights 30 spectacular destinations across the globe. An ancient city with historic sites at every turn, Rome is the No. 1 Best Place to Visit in the World. The BVI, which led the Caribbean, was ranked 23rd overall.

US News said the BVI’s resorts, villas, restaurants and other tourist attractions emphasize spare luxury over sprawling expansion, and “attract travelers with deep pockets and a love for sailing and seclusion”.

Coming in at number two in the Caribbean was Guadeloupe.

“There’s no doubt Guadeloupe possesses a certain je ne sais quoi – a spark that separates its sun-washed coasts from other Caribbean getaways,” US News said.

“Put simply, Guadeloupe features an unspoiled natural setting with rustic charms. But that’s not all this picturesque cluster of islands has to offer. Where else can you savor the sweet aroma of sugar and rum wafting through the air, taste tantalizing French-Creole flavors, and lay your towel down along untouched stretches of sandy bliss?”

St Lucia was at number three and ranked 30th overall.

Pitons, St Lucia

US News said the lush, unspoiled island “has a growing fan base” that included music lovers, honeymooners, and adrenaline junkies.

“But what you aren’t any of these types? Don’t worry: St. Lucia refuses to be pigeonholed as any “type” of Caribbean vacation. Plus you also don’t have to spend a lot of money (its reputation as a luxurious hideout is only somewhat warranted).”
