BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Tuesday November 8, 2016 – Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) members are marking Caribbean Tourism Month with a number of events and activities designed to emphasize the region’s range of visitor experiences.

Events include Pirates Week on Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman through November 27; Restaurant Week in Ocho Rios, Kingston and Montego Bay from November 11 to 19; to Golden Rock Regatta, November 14 to 18 in St. Eustatius; and the British Virgin Islands Food Fete through November 27.

The CTO also launched  several social media activities on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #CTM2016 to pump fresh energy into the tourism sector, according to Hugh Riley, secretary general.

These include photo and video posts by member countries featuring the people, heritage, fashions and attractions of the Caribbean as well as posts about vacation spots, romance settings and family getaways.

Caribbean Tourism Month runs through November.

“It’s a time to introduce new ideas, methods and products, to propose innovative and revolutionary thinking and and to generate fresh energy into the sector,” Riley said.

Caribbean tourism grew by 7% in 2015, to 28.7 million visitors. This year’s goal is 30 million visitors, and data for the first six months indicated a growth of 5.2% over the same period in 2015.

“While this is encouraging, we must not settle,” Riley said. “We cannot relax until we become the world’s most desirable year-round, warm-weather destination and until every citizen of the Caribbean benefits from tourism.” (Travel Weekly)
